Theo Bastiaens ist seit dem 01. Januar 2006 Professor an der Fernuniversität in Hagen mit dem Lehrgebiet Mediendidaktik. Er hat Bildungswissenschaften an der Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht studiert und hat seine Promotionsarbeit ‘Lernen und arbeiten mit Electronic Performance Support Systems’ an der Technischen Universität Twente geschrieben.

Seit 1997 war Herr Bastiaens Assistant Professor in Twente in dem Lehrgebiet Curriculumtheorie. 1998 wechselte er zu der Open Universiteit Nederland, wo er im Educational Technology Expertise Centre seit 2002 als Associate Professor arbeitete.

Für einen Tag in der Woche wird Herr Bastiaens auch weiterhin an der Open Universiteit im Ruud de Moor Centre, Institut für Weiterbildung von Lehrern, als Professor mit dem Schwerpunkt Mediendidaktik arbeiten.

Herr Prof. Bastiaens hat an vielen internationalen Publikationen mitgearbeitet und ist Rezensent verschiedener Zeitschriften, wie zum Beispiel Computers in Human Behaviour.
