...to the pages of the Department of Instructional Technology & Media! 

The focus of the Department of Instructional Technology & Media is in the field of ‘modern didactics’. The addition “modern” in this context emphasizes that didactics has to be seen in association with current demands made on teaching and learning. As examples for such demands the request for competence based learning, more responsibility and self-monitoring for learners, and, of course, didactically designed arrangements with “new media” can be mentioned.
The first research priority of the department lies on “new media” and especially on the didactically optimal design of multimedia software so that it has a motivating effect on learners as well as an efficient function in teaching.
Secondly, implementation research is done in traditional educational settings with new media. The central question here is the optimization of the usage of new media and their effective integration into schools.
In addition, our department sees its focus in the area of distance education. On the basis of our research projects and their findings we formulate tips and suggestions for the improvement and innovation of our distance teaching practice at the FernUniversität in Hagen. The subject area supervises modules 2B and 3B of the Bachelors Degree Program “Bildungswissenschaft” (educational science) and has the overall lead in the Masters Degree Program “e-Education” (education and media).
