Department of Instructional Technology & Media
Welcome to the pages of the Department of Instructional Technology & Media!
The Department of Instructional Technology and Media focuses on the activity level of "modern didactics". The addition "modern" in this context emphasizes that didactics has to be seen in association with current demands made on teaching and learning. To cite some examples for these actual requirements: the call for skill-based learning, more responsibility and self-monitoring for the learners and certainly the didactically well-planned arrangements of New Media.
The first main focus within the research of the Subject Area is about New Media and the didactical-optimized conceptual design of multimedia software with a motivating effect on learners as well as an efficient function for lecturers. Secondly, the implementation research concentrates on traditional instruction related to the use of media. The central question of the Subject Area concerns the optimal use of New Media and its effective integration into instruction. In addition, the Subject Area focuses on the subject of distance education. Based on our research projects and its results we try to draft several tips and suggestions for improvement and innovation of distance education at the FernUniversität in Hagen.
The Subject Area supervises the modules 2B and 3B of the Bachelors Degree Program "Bildungswissenschaft" (B.A. Educational Sciences) and it has the overall lead in the Masters Degree Program "Bildung und Medien: eEducation" (M.A. Education and Media: eEducation).
